Mentorship
At Jamal Place, we have many volunteer opportunities including tutoring, mentoring, facilitating youth groups, art projects, building repairs, and more! You can choose to work with older youth at our Transitional Living Program, or younger youth at our Group Home.
Contact us, and we will work with you to find the best possible placement. Jamal Place strives to create therapeutic programming that is transformative for our youth. We engage our youth in individualized and group therapy sessions, the arts, cultural studies, as well as health and wellness practices, in order to provide holistic educational and developmental opportunities. Support our efforts by providing in- kind items, or by making a donation! Remember, no matter how large or small, your tax- deductable contribution is making a difference in the lives of boys and young men.
Program
This board committee reviews policies and reviews the operational and clinical activities of the organization. In July, Jamal Place begins its self study for the Council on Accreditation's 2006 review and recertification. The program committee will carefully review the information gathered for submission to COA. Additionally, the committee will address any program issues and concerns that may occur during the transition from the existing group home and transitional living program sites. This committee meets quarterly. Interested volunteers should have some experience in clinical services, non- profit management, child welfare volunteerism, educational and/or spiritual service development.
Finance
If you have a flair for numbers crunching, accounting and/or financial experience this could be the committee for you. The finance committee provides the financial oversight to the organization-the "left brain" contribution to "right brain" work.
A phrase that is frequently bandied about is: "No mission, no margin. No margin, no mission." This motto helps us keep both in balance. The committee meets quarterly.
Development
If you believe in the work that Jamal Place does, then help us develop the resources to continue our work. This board committee develops strategies to increase our donor base, fundraising goals and volunteer pools. This committee is also responsible for promoting our work through the newsletter, website, and financial appeals. If you have an interest in fundraising, marketing, public relations or writing this committee could be a place for you to share your right brain's creative skills. This committee of the board also meets a minimum of once a quarter.
Annual Benefit
The "Opening Hearts, Building Futures" Benefit Dinner Dance is our largest fundraiser of the year. This committee meets monthly from September through April to plan and organize the annual March Benefit. Committee responsibilities include: securing the site for the benefit, determining the honorary chair and Dream Builder and Success Story recipients, seeking corporate and individual benefit sponsors, selling ads for the program book, soliciting silent and live auction items, invitation and program design and assisting with the set up for the evening's activities. If you have a knack for event planning or a skill for schmoozing-then consider donating some time to make the 2006 benefit a great success!
